Migraines And Relationships. How Have Migraines Affected Them?

A MyMigraineTeam Member asked a question 💭
Edwardsville, PA

I have been in a few relationships and I can say from experience that some people don't want to deal with or be in a relationship with someone with Migraines.
I have had them tell me that my Migraines are a problem for them or that they don't want to deal with them. I didn't ask for them but I deal with them. How would they feel if they had them and someone treated them like that. This is why I no longer date. Not worth the hassle.

Migraines can significantly impact relationships in various ways:

- Strain and Stress: Many people with migraines feel isolated, misunderstood, and worried about the future. This can lead to relationship problems, delays in getting married, or starting a family.
- Communication Issues: Some partners may not understand the severity of migraines, leading to feelings of neglect or frustration.
- Support and Understanding: Relationships that survive migraines often involve open communication and mutual support. Setting boundaries and finding ways to balance illness and support can help.
- Separation and Divorce: In some cases, migraines can contribute to breakups or divorces, especially if the partner is unsupportive or dismissive of the condition.

@A MyMigraineTeam Member, finding a supportive partner is so crucial. My ex-husband & even my child told me that I was over exaggerating. They got some special words 🤬, if you catch my drift. Lol. I don't want to live in my bat cave with an ice hat, tons of meds, & no longer be able to work, but yes, I'm making them up. 🙄 I don't want to see my specialists every 3-6 months even though nothing improves. I hate this feeling of being stuck due to the debilitating pain & other side effects.
