Aura In One Eye? Migraine On The Other Side Of Head?

A MyMigraineTeam Member asked a question 💭
Cypress, TX

Yesterday, I was coming home from work and when I got home, I started seeing these black spots and flashes just in my left eye. A few minutes later the right side of my face felt like it was being squeezed.

Yes, it is possible to experience an aura in one eye and a migraine on the opposite side of the head. This can occur with retinal migraines, which are characterized by visual symptoms in only one eye. These symptoms can include temporary blindness or other intense visual disturbances. Retinal migraines are often associated with a simultaneous migraine headache or a history of migraines.

If you experience these symptoms, it's important to consult a healthcare provider to ensure proper diagnosis and treatment.

Brent, I'm so so sorry. Your migraines are blitzing forward so darn fast! It's like what took me 63 years to get here, you're going through in only 7 years. That's just awful for you! I sure wish it would slow down!

My neurologist snuck me in for a virtual visit after seeing my message. He decided to have me take 300mg of Neurontin 2x a day daily. Was just taking it 1x a day, occasionally needed a 2nd dose.

No. I haven't. I have noticed that they changed recently, but right after my neuro to take me off of Neurontin a few months ago. The migraine I just got over was very strange, vertiginous and then I got like 8 hr break after 2 days and started having one of those AIWS migraines again.

@A MyMigraineTeam Member, it was pretty weird. Felt like room was spinning and like the walls were closing in on me. Also, had a felling the things were sloping. Felt a lot worse while I was sleeping.

Did the room shrink or grow big? It very well could be all AIWS. I've actually had 2 episodes where I felt the messed up perception that I was witnessing. Once my chair, and I, fell through the floor. I could see, and feel, my legs sticking up out of the hole. Another time, what I saw was the outdoors looking like a big bowl. Then when I walked DOWN hill to get my mail, it felt like I was climbing UP a hill. I was laughing my butt off. It was so bizarre. Fortunately that day, no migraine followed.

But just yesterday I had a migraine with AIWS and vertigo. So I hate to say it, but you probably have all 3 too.

Old AI just told me that it is possible to have multiple types of migraine at once. Glad you are feeling better!

I'm doing fine for now. I'm on Day 3 migraine-free thanks to the change my neuro made to my Neurontin. I'm also on Depakote for my epilepsy, which has been under control for 91 weeks now, but finally seems to be helping with my migraines.
