Does Anyone Have Experience Taking Low-dose Neurontin For Migraine Prevention?

A MyMigraineTeam Member asked a question 💭

I took low-dose Neurontin (100 mg) at night for about 20 years for nerve pain not related to migraine. I had infrequent migraines before and during those years with neurontin
I stopped taking the Neurontin about three years ago
About a year after stopping the Neurontin, my migraines went from my having 1-4 short episodes a YEAR to having 5 to 15 of migraine days a MONTH. It’s now been 2-3 years of severe chronic migraines.
I read an article about Neurontin recently as a preventative for… read more

I have been on neurotic 300 mg twice a day to help prevent headaches . It does help . I was told these meds aren’t supposed to be long term as your body gets used to them but I’ve been on for many years

Hi,
I do use Nurtec if I feel a migraine coming on and it works sometimes.
I use Zomig when the pain hits.
The problem is my increased frequency of various migraine symptoms with and without pain.
I need something to reduce my frequency, and I am reluctant to take the new injectables.
As I explained above, I use Neurontin in the past, but this was before my terrible frequency.

I am curious about people who might be using Neurontin as a preventative.

Thank you for your response. I do agree that Nurtec can be very helpful.
It is also extremely expensive and thereby prohibitive for many people. I just filled a prescription of 16 Nurtec and my co-pay was close to $700.
I don’t qualify for any of the discount programs because I have Medicare.

Try nurtec odt you put it in your mouth and it dissolves instantly. And 30 minutes later your migraine will be gone . I use it all the time. The side effects are minimal.
