Is Anyone Else Using DHE Injections To Get Rid Of A Migraine Once It Has Come On And What Side Effects Do You Get? How Many Do You Need?
I was looking through the list of medications on this site and noticed that the form I take of one is not listed and that none of the members here I have come across yet are using. Is anyone else giving themselves DHE injections when they get a bad migraine? I give it in the side of the upper thigh. Sometimes I will have some slight ache in my muscles in my legs, or all muscles afterwards, especially if I take more than one and it can cause me a bit of an IBD flare.
The spray is okay. Sometimes my sinuses swell just after but goes down after a while. Sometimes it takes some time before I realize I have some relief. If it is bad enough for the DHE nasal spray (trade name Migrainal), I'm usually taking something for nausea (usually Reglan) with it. To the good, it has continued to work for me, unlike the Relpax.
The toradol really burns when injected. I always say that after having it once no one would subject themselves to the pain of the shot unless the migraine pain was worse. Unfortunately for many of us, the pain of the shot is the only thing that can bring us relief.
I’ve been hospitalized twice in the last 4 months for Migraine. November was the first time and my first time getting DHE IV. It worked when nothing else did. I had to get the full course of treatment (I think it was 7 days, 3 times a day). The first day of February I was hospitalized for Migraine again and had the DHE. This time I got the DHE for 3 days and left when I felt my migraine was manageable, but not gone. Big mistake. I should have stayed and finished out the course of treatment. I was extremely nauseated and had excessive vomitting the second time but not the first. The sweet nurse cane ready after the first time with ice packs, hot packs, a wet wash cloth, and a bucket. It was really rough. I also experience really bad muscle and spine pain after my migraine abate, but I don’t know if it’s a side effect of medication or just migraine hangover.
It may not be an allergic reaction. It could be an interaction to other meds. It could also be a panic attack. At any rate you may want to have a chemicals allergy test to double check after talking with your doc
