What's One Thing About Migraine You Feel People Aren't Talking About Enough?
Lol, Sorry. I talk about the Elbow Trick so much I figured it has made its rounds. Very simple use of heat and ice. Get 2 bowls big enough to stick your elbows in. Fill one with ice and water, the other with the hottest tap water your elbow can handle. Stick in your elbows at the same time for 10 minutes. Sometimes it will shock your migraine away. If it doesn't work at first, switch the bowls around. Repeat as necessary. If you're too sick to stand up, I have actually been successful with using a heating pad on high and an ice pack large enough to wrap around my elbow. Sounds stupid, but friends have called me crying because none of their meds were working and what can they do?!! I told them about this and they will call back in 15 minutes thanking me.
How when it’s medicated and the pain is “gone” finally- it isn’t really over. People take an otc for a headache, the pain goes away, and it’s over. Folks don’t widely understand it doesn’t work that way with migraine. Some days the pain dissipates, but my comprehension, problem solving skills, memory, speech etc are still moderately to highly impaired, and my entire body is sore and tired -every muscle hurts.
It's frustrating when people say "are you sick AGAIN?" Like, you somehow are either a) sickly or b) responsible for bringing it on yourself because you don't take care of yourself
Oh, I need to add folks need to understand often “pushing through it” is the WORST thing we can do. Had that suggested at work. Honestly if a dozen med errors, my throwing up all over, and being in agony and out of commission for days after is what they’re after, then I guess pushing through is a good idea - and then if that happens, it’s “why did you come in if you were that sick”. It’s so frustrating. (No longer am at that job).
How much it takes out on you physically, mentally and emotionally as you crawl out of the pit after a bad flare of migraines. You lose friends because you can't attend things as often and the invites disappear. Keep asking please
