How Long Should A Migraine Last?

A MyMigraineTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hello, I have suffered with migraines for 30 years now. Getting them at the age of 8 is hard enough as it is, but as I grew up the headaches would last longer. about 5 years ago, I got a headache that lasted 8 days. I thought I was going to die, seriously, I think at moments I actually prayed to god saying "I'm not ready to die please don't give me a brain aneurism at 33 years old!!!"
I finally caved and gave in t my husband who was pleading me to go to he hospital. ( I did not want to get out… read more

If a neurologist tells you to find another Dr. it is because they no longer know what to do w/you. That happened to me twice. So I found another Neurologist. Find one that specializes in headaches. Educate yourself about migraines, they are not just headaches. I have been where you are for over 40 yrs. There are so very many treatment options avail. today. The FDA in the last 2 yrs. approved a new class of drugs. You give yourself an injection once a month from a pre-filled syringe. It was a miracle drug for me. There's Ajovy, Emgality & Aimovig. Giving yourself this injection may take someone 1 time to do it before they are a pro, but for me I would say I'm pretty much migraine-free for the last 2 yrs. I still get headaches. I just take generic Excedrin for Migraine not Advil for migraine, lay on an ice pack & in a short time I'm good to go. Good Luck.

Look in the phone book for Drs, then look under Neurology. Neurology only, I go to the Neurology Institute. They are Neurologists only. I have been seeing mine for years.

I know what you been through because I suffered with migraine headaches too and I was missing work like you. I just wanted to roll up in a ball and cry because the pain was so unbearable that I had to go to the emergency room just to get a shot to make the pain go away. I even had to get a spinal tap to make sure it wasn't menagitis. Thank God it wasn't. I did what my pastor told me to do and that is to place your hand on your head and say migraine headache I rebuke every blood cells in my head to go away and I ask you God to heal me in the mighty name of Jesus and headache you have to go now and never come back in Jesus mighty name we pray amen. Before you feel that headache start to come on immediately lay hands and pray over it. God is our healer and our comforter .

I also took only Topomax and that did not prevent migraine and I had a migraine once for 6 months. Aimovig was a life changer for me and go figure, it's a migraine medication! Topomax isn't!! I still have Sumatriptan and Rizatriptan for a rescue medicine, but my migraines are much less frequent and intense now.
I'd be happy to share any info I can! I learned a ton on the Migraine World Summit this year!
Take care!!
