What Abortive Treatments Do You Take? What Other Treatments Have You Tried That Gets Rid Of The Migraine?
I take sumatriptan injections and relpax. The last couple weeks have been horrible and I’m running through them like crazy. I know about rebound headaches but if I want to be functional I need to take something. My parents are wanting me to see a chiropractor but when I’ve been in the past, it’s made them worse.
Have you tried massage therapy? I saw 2 different chiropractors and had nothing but more problems after seeing them. Massage therapy has worked wonders for me. Acupuncture worked for me in the past, but did not work the last time I tried it. IMO you have to try everything that is out there, some of the alternative treatments do work. You just have to give them a try.
Not saying that's the best course of action of course... Just for the record. It does come with risks. But I feel for you, I'm in the same boat. Are you in any preventatives? If not, you should bring this up with your doctor. There are many different types, but they oftentimes do help. For me they help cut back on the severity of them. I still have 24/7 migraines, but instead of wanting to bash my head open all the time, they've become tolerable. Imitrex. Topamax. Gabapentin. Venlafaxine.
I have been on Propranolol, Topomax, Gabapentin, and Hydrocodone. Botox has helped me but now I am on Aimovig now…monthly shots, they help ALOT!! I am on Thorazine pills to abort..but it dries you out!! I have tried Imitrex, Toridol (helped me at first), Amitriptyline, Cafergot, Depakote, Sinus surgery, Feedback therapy, anger management therapy, emotions therapy, and oxygen therapy. Topomax after 25 years gave me kidney stones. So no longer on Topomax. Also on anti-depressants!!
I go through my imitrex like crazy also. I'd rather deal with the rebound headaches if it means I can function than not have them and be nothing but a slug on the floor crying again...
Big difference in acupuncturists. I had one years ago that helped tremendously. She moved and stopped taking insurance Couldn’t afford her either after she upped her prices. I tried different acupuncturists after her and did not find relief. Chiropractors also made mine worst.
