I have read and been told so much
conflicting information about the uses and effects of these drugs I don't know who to believe.

I was told early on that I was supposed to take only three a week. I take Rescue medication after that which is vistral and soma together which makes me sleep and am down for the count for two or more days.

I use Relpax and your only sup posed to take 4 pills (if needed) a week. For me that's not enough. If the Relpax works I can function normally.

Urgh sorry went a bit off topic there - I take 10 a month max - have to ride out the other migraines & save the triptins for worst days.

Unfortunately different drugs work differently on different people! Its a case of trying different meds until you find the best one or best combination. I use sumatriptin but have recently switched to a nasal spray as tablets aren't as effective anymore ... But I've tried all of them in the past 10years!

The way a drug affects you might be very different to the way it affects others. Worth a go in my opinion - you can always stop it.

Or if you'd rather not use them, perhaps look into volunteering in migraine drug trails to see if any of the new meds help.

Triptins are meant to be rescue drugs, as they only deal with the immediate problem (pain) and don't preven migraines.

OMG how awful it must be to have to ration the triptans. When I don't have anything planned for the day I try not to take them. Thank goodness my insurance pays for them.
What triptan are you using? I use the generic frovatriptan and I get 14 pills for about $200.
