Do You Follow A Specific Diet To Help With Migraine?

I don’t follow a specific diet. I do avoid artificial sweeteners as I get headaches from them. I try (even though I’m a sugar hound) to avoid too much sugar. Any time I cut sugar out of my diet I do so much better! But I find myself slipping back each time. I avoid MSG, all soda and I do not drink alcohol. I gave drinking up several years ago after realizing just one drink will give me a roaring migraine. Alcohol crept upon my as a trigger. Deli meat is a definite no no. I avoid cheese except for baby Swiss.

Yes, I have tried several diets with no success. I don't use any artificial sweeteners, I don't drink coffee and only use herbal teas. I don't eat bananas. I use no air fresheners or perfumed products except natural orange scented - orange does not bother me. I can tell the difference between real orange scent and fake orange in a 1/2 second flat. LOL!

Coffee - not caffeine - just coffee. Every other elimination diet did not make a difference. But since I stopped coffee and just drink tea I’ve had a significant decrease. Stress is my worst enemy as well as environmental factors. Perfume, dust and mold, bad air quality in my office - I have invested in an air purifier and a humidifier which has helped. The air was too dry and loosened up dry mold… ugh. Constantly having low grade headaches and then flaring up into massive migraines.

Fortunately, I don't eat chocolate or drink alcohol but I now limit my coffee to one cup a day and I really decreased my sodium intake. I also try to follow the tips here in this book: https://www.amazon.com/Heal-Your-Headache-David...
Perhaps bc I am on topomax now along with this diet, but my migraines have significantly reduced where I have only had to take Excedrin twice in the last 6-7 weeks. I used to take it 4-6 times a week as the triptans put me to sleep and I couldn't work! Hope this helps!

Hello Everyone,
I read all of these responses and while everyone has their own foods to prefer and avoid, the theme is that hardly anyone thinks that this has resulted in less days with migraine symptoms.
I still think it is worth it from an overall health perspective to make healthier choices such as those I read here like drinking a good amount of water, getting exercise, trying to manage stress, avoiding too much sugar, alcohol, chocolate, etc.
Personally, I don’t smoke, drink, alcohol, or eat meat. I limit sugar, chocolate, cheese, MSG, and other foods that seem to be triggers for the most people. I need to get better about drinking more water.
I am fortunate that caffeine is my friend. I drink about 4 cups of coffee per week and they are usually half caffeine.
I probably don’t ingest enough caffeine to have a withdrawal issue, but if I feel a migraine coming on, a cup of coffee, or an Excedrin headache, which is Tylenol plus caffeine, can often combat the migraine symptoms.
I wish everyone has as few migraine days as possible.
