Amytriptaline/Trazadone

A MyMigraineTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi everyone. I have been on 50mg of trazadone for 2 weeks. It makes me sleep which has been great, but the next day i feel awful and so tired, even when I do sleep. My neuro prescribed amytriptaline instead since the trazadone is giving me weird side effects. Does anyone have experience or think that the amytriptaline might work for me if the trazadone didn't? I'm scared it will do the same thing.

In the psych world psychiatrist love to go trazadone at level giving many of us "hangovers" which is worse than not sleeping. Plus would wake up at least 3x a night.

My migraines started after a Traumatic Brain Injury in 2018 with Post Concussive Syndrome and Chronic Pain. Doctors had me on 13 prescriptions and I became a different person in the worst way due to side effects. I tried everything...as a last resort Botox nearly cured the migraines and chronic pain, but I changed jobs and the new insurance denied coverage. Now I've applied for disability and I'm only taking Nortriptylline 75mg daily and Valium 10mg up to three times daily and an antidepressant. I feel like I got my soul back only being on 3 medications. I still struggle with hypersomnia and next day drowsiness; However, I also have frequent insomnia staying awake for 24 hours+ with high energy/anxiety and scintillating scotomas even after taking Nortriptylline with all 3 Valiums at the same time. I've found that radical acceptance, faith in a higher power/the Oneness of all, and inner peace are the most important parts of the migraine journey.

I take Nortriptylline 75mg daily and Valium 10mg up to three times daily. I've been taking these for 5 years now and still have drowsiness the next day. However, I also struggle with insomnia and can stay awake for up to 24 hours with high energy/anxiety and hallucinations even after taking both medications together.

My neurologist has started me on so may medications with horrible side effects. Elavil didn't come with side effects per se but didn't completely get rid of my migraines. Also placed on 1800mg of Neurontin a day which was way too much so I cut back to 600mg/day. I recently ordered an ice cap from Amazon which surprisingly helps.
