When Do You Request A MRI?

A MyMigraineTeam Member asked a question 💭
Dickeyville, WI

I’ve been experiencing severe headaches almost daily (5 out of 7 days a week) for over two months now. I have a history of traumatic brain injury. They are accompanied with dizziness/lightheadedness, I see spots, and some nausea but no vomiting. Just yesterday I started experiencing a new symptom of when I move my eyes side to side I get a sharp shooting pain toward the front of my head.

O wow! I did not read your brain bleed issue when I posted the above. Hope you are getting the proper attention for this. Prayers for you!

I would suggest consulting a neurologist esp, since this is a new symptom. Since you had a traumatic brain injury, I assume you were followed by a neurologist and that perhaps you are still seeing one. I used to work in brain injury rehab with adults helping them with memory skills, etc. I am curious as to when you had your brain injury. You don't have to answer but it does leave me curious. The neurologist can then determine if you should get an MRI done. A CT scan or other brain imaging may be considered too but a neurologist can determine if that is necessary. If it were me, I would not accept the answer of hopefully it will go away on its own esp. with the type of symptoms you are experiencing. Any medical practitioner, who is aware that you have new symptoms, has a moral and ethical obligation to do follow up. If they are not willing to follow up on your new symptoms, then don't hesitate to get a second opinion. If allowed, bring a trusted friend with you on your next appt. who can take notes and help you advocate on your behalf. I realize that getting a 2nd opinion is easier said than done but in your case, if your current practitioner is not taking you seriously, you have every right to a 2nd opinion and are deserving of it.
Keep us posted on how things turn out for you. My heart goes out to you.

They said hopefully it will go away on its own…I don’t know what next steps I should take though.

Wow, so sorry. What is next step? It’s scary to go through all the steps to find a remedy or at the least an answer. At least it was found!

I don’t want to scare anyone, but I could use some positive vibes. I had the MRI done and they found a brain bleed.
