Does Anyone Have Any Experience With Vestibular Migraines??
I have been dealing with chronic migraines every single day for more than a year now. My doctors have tried me on different preventative medications, I started botox in October and that helped with the pain, but all my other symptoms are still there. I'm constantly dizzy and off balance, there is so much pressure in my head and neck, sometimes intense pressure, my head and ears feel full all the time. I don't know what else to do!! Yes, I started getting vestibular migraines a couple years ago in addition to the classic migraines I have had almost my whole life. During vestibular migraines, I have dizziness, quick flashes of vertigo, and tinnitus, but the head pain is mild.
I have seen both, thank you for your reply. I got a mouth guard for TMJ that I have been wearing for months, that hasn't helped much at all with the head symptoms. I have also seen two different ENT doctors, one of which suggested I see a dentist for TMJ and the other told me that it's seasonal allergies which I already knew was not accurate because I have been experiencing this for over a year now, every season, every day for more than a year. It's gotten to a point where it's just frustrating because I haven't felt like myself or had even one symptom free day in so long.
My TMJ mouthguard eventually didn't help anymore and that was when I began getting migraines. My TMJ dentist referred me to an oral surgeon in Chicago who specializes in TMJ. I had minor surgery which helped a lot. Also, physical therapy for neck pain helped a lot. I cut down a lot on my phone use which helped my neck pain and reduced my migraines. I switched from reading books to listening to audiobooks. It helps reduce my migraines if I avoid looking bending my head down. When your chin is close to your chest, the weight of your head pulls on your neck. It's like having a bowling ball hanging from your neck, pulling your neck down. When your chin is up so that it's parallel to the floor (as in when looking straight ahead) your head is balanced on your neck and that's much easier on the vertebrae and muscles in your neck.
My ears are often plugged up. I recommend seeing an ENT to learn the cause of this. Also, tell them about your dizziness because they will do tests to see what is causing it.
I also recommend seeing a TMJ specialist, even if you don't have the symptoms. I didn't have pain in the joints in front of my ears, but I do have TMJ. Once that was treated, I got a lot fewer migraines and have much fewer migraines.
I got a neck xray to check for arthritis. It showed i have it. Then i got an MRI of my neck, which showed i have Cervical Foraminal Stenosis which means that there is a narrowing of the space around my spinal cord. Whenever my neck pain gets bad, I got a migraine.
I was sent to PT for my neck and now I rarely get dizzy.
I do have trouble with my balance sometimes before a migraine starts. It is sometimes part of my prodrome. I also fall asleep sitting up before a migraine.
