I have the mirena IUD. My pcp said that has been the most helpful for her migraine and cluster headache patients.

I just went off the pill (Apri, low dose progesterone) and had the Nexplanon put in my arm a couple months ago because we suspected that even the low dose might be detrimental.

When I was younger I was put on birth control pills and low-dose to help control my migraines. Pretty sure it wasn’t helpful though. I find that even now that I’m older, if I use an estrogen cream it will bring on an almost instantaneous high level migraine. So in my experience, hormones have Significantly increased some of my really high stroke like migraines.

I had issues with birth control since they said I was at high risk for stroke (since my migraines mimic a stroke sometimes) choose to remove my tubes and be done with it. My husband and I have a son and we are perfectly happy not having any more.
