Day 10 Of Having A Severe Migraine!!
My PCP is saying shots to help but I'm not to sure of this as I take Butalb-acetamin-Caff (Phone number can only be seen by MyMigraineTeam users) (emergency back up med) with Topamax 50mg daily with little to no relief pro and cons of the shots please
I have been taking injections of Emgality for 6months but my migraines are coming back. I tried fioricet, but it didn't work I am a recovering addict 11 years clean so I dont take tylenol 3 or 4 or oxycodone or oxycontin but I do use imitrex 100mg and ibuprofen most of the time they work. Sorry you're having such a problem trying to find something that will work. Hopefully your Neurologist will have something to help you. Try to be gentle with yourself until then.
If by shots you mean Emgality, I have no side effects from it and have been on it over a year. It has made my dizziness and nausea almost disappear, reduced my pain from severe to moderate, and my migraines only last half as long. Get checked for TMJ even if no symptoms. Getting it treated cut my migraines in half.
The very first time I had a months worth of headaches at least three fourths migraine I got a shot for the pain and it worked, but I'm sorry I don't remember the name of the medicine. This second time I'm on my first month of a preventive injection called Emgality. For me it has been slow acting and really hasn't worked very well, but I am just starting out. I was taking the same combination of pills that you were taking and the florist did nothing for my headaches. I am still taking the Topamax though. From what I read different medicines work for different people. Good luck on finding something right for you. Be it pill or shot.
What shots does the PCP recommend? A different type of rescue as a shot, or a preventive shot? Ex: Immetrix (spelling) Ketorolac (Torodal) can be given in shot form or a pill form dose and are more rescue. Amovig, Ajovy, and Emagality (spelling?) are preventive types along with Botox.
This is an add on for disposing of syringes or pens. I live in Illinois in Madison County, and my hospital would not take my needles. They said I would have to go to the health department. So things might have changed in other places as well. Just thought I'd share that. Also I've been on Emgality 9 months now I don't have headaches anymore. I still have 2 months worth of Sumatriptan. I only use Ibuprofen and that's usually for other pains.
